Four years after the volcanic eruption on Isla Nublar and the incident at Lockwood Estate, Dinosaurs roam the Earth. Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) is part of the Dinosaur Protection Group. She and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) are living in a cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and take care of Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), Benjamin Lockwood’s cloned granddaughter. Owen’s velociraptor Blue shows up at the cabin with its offspring, which Maisie calls Beta. Biosyn Genetics is conducting medical research on dinosaurs, looking to cure human diseases, and they would dearly like to study Maisie. When she sneaks off, she is captured along with Beta. Owen and Claire go after her.

Elsewhere, swarms of giant locusts have reappeared and the world food supply is threatened. Paleobotanist Doctor Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) discovers the locusts will not eat food grown with Biosyn seed, making her suspect that Biosyn created the locusts, which she believes came from the Cretaceous. She meets with Paleontologist Doctor Alan Grant, who joins her in investigating Biosyn.

Using old CIA contacts, Claire and Owen track Maisie and Beta to Malta and infiltrate a dinosaur black market. The authorities raid the market and accidentally release dinosaurs. There is a chase through the city streets. Claire and Owen are told that Maisie and Beta are being transported to Biosyn’s headquarters in a dinosaur valley in the Dolomite Range of Italy. They meet Kayla Watts (DeWanda Wise), a sympathetic pilot who agrees to fly them there.

Kayla’s cargo plane is attacked by Quetzalcoatlus. Claire ejects and Owen and Kayla survive a crash-landing. They are all pursued by Therizinosaurus and Pyroraptors, and they find each other. Chaos Theorist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) works for Biosyn and invites Grant and Sattler to Biosyn headquarters to investigate illegal activity by CEO Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott), with the help of comm director Ramsay Cole (Marmadou Athie). Geneticist Doctor Henry Wu (BD Wong) engineered the locusts to eat rival company’s crops. He explains to Maisie that she is not Lockwood’s clone, but Lockwood’s wife Charlotte used her own DNA to create her. He thinks Maisie’s DNA can stop the locusts.

Ellie and Alan get access to a restricted Biosyn Lab. They steal a locust sample and find Maisie. Dodgson sees them on a security camera and burns the locust lab evidence, starting a forest fire. Alan, Ellie, and Maisie escape through an amber mine, find Ian, and join Owen, Claire, and Kayla, dodging dinosaurs. Dodgson is killed by a Dilophosaurus while trying to escape with embryos in a shaving-cream can. Electronic devices call in the dinos and Owen Captures Beta. A Giganotosaurus terrorizes everyone until it is killed by a Therizinosaurus and a T-Rex. The group escapes by helicopter, taking Wu, who succeeds in stopping the locust infestation. Ellie and Alan get together and testify against Biosyn. Owen, Claire, and Maisie bring Beta back to Blue. Around the world, dinos and humans learn to live together.

The film was directed by Colin Trevorrow, written by him and Emily Carmichael, based on a story by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. It is the long-awaited, pandemic-delayed conclusion of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World series. It was not loved by the critics. Trevorrow apparently knew how the story would end as long ago as Jurassic World. There were 18 animatronic creatures in the film and Industrial Light and Magic added CGI. The original T-Rex from Jurassic Park, called Rexy, was brought back to battle the Giganotosaurus.

The greatest threat in the movie is not a dinosaur, but the giant locusts. There was a Dimetrodon in the film, which pre-dated the dinosaurs in the Permian Epoch. Sam Neill is the same age that Richard Attenborough was in Jurassic Park. When he and Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum sat together for an early shot in a jeep, a picture was sent to Steven Spielberg, who became quite emotional. Bryce Dallas Howard is Ron Howard’s daughter. Some people said the movie was terrible, but I don’t know where they’re coming from. Certainly, it’s not as finely crafted as Jurassic Park, but it’s full of exciting James Bond-like chase scenes with dinosaurs, two romances, a smart kid and a baby Raptor to like,  and Rexy saves the day again.
